Background
Erythromycin is an alkaline antibiotic extracted from the broth of Streptomyces rubrum. It is a macrolide antibiotic,its antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of penicillin. Erythromycin has a strong inhibitory effect on Gram-positive bacteria.

In the downstream purification of erythromycin production, using its characteristics of dissolving in different solvents at different pH levels, repeated extraction with butyl acetate and aqueous solution to achieve the purpose of concentration and purification, and finally freeze crystallization in the butyl acetate solution to obtain high purity erythromycin. The filtration of erythromycin fermentation broth usually adopts zinc sulfate flocculation and plate and frame filtration extraction process. This process has disadvantages like serious heavy metal pollution, large amount of waste water, low filtration yield, high production cost, and light transmittance of the final product erythromycin thiocyanate .

With more than 20 years of experience in membrane separation, TANGENT has applied advanced ceramic membrane technology and nanofiltration membrane concentration technology to the clarification and concentration of erythromycin fermentation broth, replacing the traditional plate and frame filter press. The integrated membrane  extraction process has advantages like no heavy metal pollution, low waste discharge, high product yield, and good product quality.
